If you’re wondering what are the ingredients in E Liquid and Vape Liquid, we’re going to go over all of the different ingredients and what they’re used for below.
Propylene Glycol(PG) is found in the majority of E Liquids. It is usually seen in percentages of 10-50% of the vape liquid, depending on the manufacturer. Propylene Glycol is generally used to be the flavor carrier in vape liquids. Most flavorings that are used in E Liquid are made in a base of propylene glycol as it is considered a flavor carrier.
To give some reality, if you go to a coffee shop and ask for a flavor shot, generally the base of that flavor shot is propylene glycol.
Vegetable Glycerin(VG) is seen in liquids from 50-100%(Minus flavoring and nicotine) of vape liquids. Vegetable Glycerin is a much thicker consistency than PG. It is responsible for creating the thick vapor clouds. Generally higher VG vape juice blends produce more vapor. The only time that’s not the case is where the e liquid is not being properly wicked to the coils and a 70VG/30PG blend might produce more clouds because of proper wicking.
Flavoring is the other ingredient added to vape liquids. These are the most questionable ingredients in vaping, as there have been concerns with diketones(diacetyl, acetyl propionyl and acetoin) and the potential risks of these chemicals. We’re not going to go into the potential risks of those chemicals here, but in each flavoring additive there are different chemicals inside of them. Generally vape liquids have different flavoring liquids used inside of them mixed in certain proportions in order to create the flavor profile of the vape liquid.
Generally the Recipe for E Liquid is just propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavoring and liquid nicotine.
Some manufacturers add sweeteners to their liquids like Sucralose. Sucralose is the most common artificial sweetener used in E Liquid. Personally we’re not a fan of the stuff in our vape liquid as it tends to create gunk on your wicks and reduces the lifespan of your coils and frankly we just don’t like the flavor it adds.
Generally not necessary in E Liquid but the majority of the big brands use artificial sweeteners to add sweetness to their liquids.
That about wraps it up. Sometimes manufacturers add other additives which may make certain flavors pop, but they’re unnecessary just like sweeteners. All that’s needed for E Liquid is PG, VG, Flavoring and nicotine. The rest is up to the manufacturer and what else they add in.
